MeduLine is committed to enhancing medical education worldwide, with a focus on health care professionals working in acute or critical specialties, and a desire to reach resource limited areas where access to quality training is difficult.

Our team strives to support all clinicians and allied health professionals in challenging areas by providing advanced and relevant online training.

MeduLine is an initiative to provide online training programs for the acute and critical aspects of all specialties, with a focus on Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine and Trauma Surgery.

The training programmes are developed by clinicians and allied health professionals working in a variety of fields but also in a range of medical systems. This ensures that the materials are relevant and appropriate for medical professionals around the world.

The founders of MeduLine are experienced Consultants in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care and Medical Education, and so have a unique understanding of the needs and expectations of medical professionals.
This expertise allows MeduLine to develop highly interactive and customisable online training programs, which can be tailored to the specific training needs of the organisations that request them, ensuring that the training materials are engaging, effective and relevant.

Listed below are the key projects they have developed or led over the last four years: 

Introduction to Teaching

MeduLine developed this e-learning to provide a solid foundation in educational theory and optimal teaching practice for clinicians, especially those involved with simulation training.

Introduction to Teaching (Ukrainian Version)

This translation into Ukrainian was completed with the assistance of the Simulation Centre at Bogomolets National University, Kyiv to facilitate the WHO led introduction of the European Trauma Course programme to Ukraine.

Anaesthetic e-learning course

This e-learning course was created for German medical students as an introductory module to anaesthesia. It allowed teaching to continue during the Covid pandemic restrictions, but due to its positive student feedback, the course continues to be used.

European Trauma Course Workshop Update

This project provided a thorough update and redesign of all the teaching materials available for the instructors of the European Trauma Course.

European Trauma Course Online Recertification

This online recertification for the European Trauma Course was developed to allow easy access to training for those needing to recertify.

Research: Blended learning for technical skills teaching

This original study was undertaken to compare the traditional 4-step approach to skills teaching with a blended approach using pre-course online elements in addition to face-to-face teaching.

Elonka Bergmans

Director

Dr Bergmans is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the University Hospital OWL Bielefeld, Germany, specialising in Trauma and Paediatric Anaesthesia. She has a rich background in various healthcare systems in the Netherlands, UK, Germany, and Malawi, and has participated in global medical emergency relief work, providing her with a unique perspective. As an active clinician and a consultant in Medical Education, she remains at the forefront of medical training and innovation. Dr Bergmans effectively merges her expertise in medical simulation with human factors training, emphasising team training within medical simulations. Additionally, she is proficient in technology enhanced learning, having led the development of significant online resources.

In the four years she served as Educational Lead of the European Trauma Course, she was responsible for the development of the European Trauma Course Online Recertification and the update of the ETC teaching materials. 

Her skill in creating web-based educational materials which are suited to a variety of healthcare systems makes her an invaluable member of our team.

Alistair Billington

Director

Dr Billington brings extensive experience from his varied clinical career, which started with Surgical training but progressed to Emergency Medicine with Intensive Care. His special interests are Major Trauma, Resuscitation, Focussed Ultrasound and Medical Education. 

Having stepped back from clinical practice, he now focuses full time on Medical Education, applying his experience to developing high quality training materials. 

Over the past three years, he has redesigned and updated the European Trauma Course workshop materials and is currently completing a revision of the course manual. He also made significant contributions to the European Trauma Course Online Recertification in 2021, which is accredited for 8 CPD points. 

Dr. Billington’s expertise ensures that our courses are practical and clinically relevant. He has always had a strong IT background and has more recently completed training in graphics and image editing, and the use of e-learning authoring platforms.

We are proud to have an experienced team of advisors who provide their extensive clinical expertise but also their experience of being medical educators in a variety of healthcare settings around the world.

Dr Karl Thies

Consultant in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Prehospital Emergency Medicine at Bielefeld University Hospital. Founder and past chair of the European Trauma Course Organisation.

Special interests pathway optimisation for major trauma patients, paediatric anaesthesia, humanitarian health care and clinical research.

Karl has taken part in 20 missions to Central America, South America, Central Africa and Palestine providing direct clinical care and advanced training for local health care practitioners.
